EVENT: Heritage Week 2013 – Advancing Botany: the 1880s campaign for local government in Botany and Mascot

2013 marks 125 years of local government in the Botany and Mascot areas. Botany Progress Association campaigned hard for residents, during the 1880s, to establish a Council. Other residents furiously campaigned against incorporation. Botany and North Botany (later Mascot) Municipal Councils were finally established in 1888.

To celebrate Heritage Week’s theme of ‘Community milestones’, please join us for an informative discussion about the path to incorporation and the local personalities who led the way. There will also be an opportunity to view the George Hanna Memorial Museum’s latest display, ‘Faces and Places: a visual history of Botany’s street names’.

Date: Saturday, 13th April, 2013 at 2pm, Mascot Library and George Hanna Memorial Museum, 2 Hatfield Street, Mascot.

Refreshments will be served. Entry is free, but bookings are essential on 9366 3888, or email: museum@botanybay.nsw.gov.au.
